A gay paradise?

Today I visited Singapore's National Museum with boyfriend P and our female Mexican friend who also happened to be in Singapore. I was amazed by one particular fact that I discovered there. As late at 1860 the male:female ratio in the city was 10:1, because it was a place that men came to work, leaving their families behind in their home countries! My immediate thoughts were, in one sense at least, it must have been a gay paradise :-).

You could probably tell which ones were gay by who came into work in the morning with a smile on their face :-)

I've spent some time (thankfully not much) on offshore installations, where the typical work schedule is 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off and the ratio of men to women (smart girls) is about 50:1.

They don't allow alcohol or drugs (obviously) on the rigs and only very limited smoking in designated areas, if memory serves. They said that the alcohol ban was for safety reasons... I'm not so sure it wasn't to stop the pent-up horny guys from getting liquored up and raping one-another...

You are in Singapore? Amazing! Gay paradise? It is illegal for mutually consenting adult men to have sex…

hi, welcome to singapore.... unfortunately, it's far from being a gay paradise....

Must have been yes, and that's why the law against unatural sex remains. Seeing how promiscuous the boys are around town, the number of divided legs between 2 doors and knees down in shopping centers loos; without some restrictions there would be orgies in the streets:)

Great food in Singapore. Little else.

Did you go to the Raffles?

Hmmm... it's illegal to perform gay acts in Singapore. Not sure if it's still punishable by death.

Far from a paradise I'd say.

Thanks for the comments guys. Needless to say, I'm fully aware of the current laws regarding gay sex in Singapore, but perhaps I should have mentioned the facts for readers who don't know.

Fascinating regarding the offshore installations Kenski. I've never worked in that field, but what you say doesn't surprise me!

Raffles is a lovely hotel HB8, I've stayed there before but it's not cheap! However in the current climate of global financial meltdown, I'd be lying if I said that I'm not worried, because there is a genuine possibility that I may not have a job soon :-(.

No tommo, gay sex in Singapore isn't just punishable by death, but you can go to jail. However I don't think anyone has been jailed recently.

Anyhow, if they only send gay guys to jail, it could be fun;)

There must be something about that side of the world. I read an article about an impending man drought in Australia. Maybe Singapore can lend them some.

Not sure if you're still in Singapore, but if you get the chance and are in the mood, head to Tantric - its actually a very nice gay bar with a fabulous courtyard in the front where you can enjoy a warm Singapore evening; if it gets too much, go inside into the airconditioning (and see if you can find anything that reminds you of Soho in London!) The eye candy is okay too.
