You are right that only a person with marriage on their mind would ask that question. However, the woman Z is afraid of discussing the subject because she doesn't want to lose her boyfriend. The direct approach of "Will you marry me?" demands a "Yes" or "No" answer, which could easily cause a problem with their relationship. An indirect approach, such as the one in the post, doesn’t demand a "yes" or "no" answer which means it's a safer way for her to tackle the issue :-).

GB xxxGBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07046768019709916759noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10667700.post-9630510569355555442016-02-23T22:31:24.115+00:002016-02-23T22:31:24.115+00:00"OK, how about this. Say to him something like 'Have you ever thought that one day, I *might* like to get married to you?'"

"That doesn't say you want to get married or you don't want to get married. It just asks him whether he's thinking about it, and whether he's thinking about what you *might* want, at some point in the future!"

Don't really get this, or rather, really don't get this? Seems particularly convoluted, or the question seems pretty direct in that only a person with marriage on her/his mind would ask such a question? Or I could be missing some nuances here, mind if you explain? :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
