Provincetown, Massachusetts

Last year, after a short business trip to New York, myself, boyfriend P and some of his friends had a long weekend together in a house on Fire Island. We all got on well with each other on that occasion so this year we decided to get together again, although staying in a different location. So at the end of last month, after a long week filled with business meetings in New York, I hired a car and we all drove out to Provincetown in Cape Cod where we'd rented a house for the week.

Like Fire Island, Provincetown is another magnet for gay men, especially during the week which includes the 4th July American independence day celebrations. There's a huge number of gay venues, including places like the Boatslip which has a tea dance every day from 4pm-7pm during the summer season. The only problem with Provincetown is getting there. It's at the furthest point along Cape Cod, so it's around a six hour drive from New York!

So this is just a short post to say that GB's been on holiday :-). But I'm back now, so I'll try and write a bit more about Provincetown later in the week.

Love to hear where's good this year... BF and I are there for Carnival in late August which is also supposed to be fun. Love the Boatslip but I gather it's up for sale and redevelopment so it could be its last year...

Hope you had a great time!

I used to go to P-town every summer. It has to be one of my favorite places to go on vacation. I tend to find it quite a bit more relaxing than Fire Island, but perhaps that is because I actually live about 30-45 minutes from Fire Island, so I prefer the "trip" and actually getting out of the area. Indeed, it is quite a long drive, especially if you are not used to it.

Looking forward to your post of your trip - curious to know what is still around and what is not.

Provincetown has become a bit manic the last decade, but it's still a very lovely place to be with tremendous gay energy and magnificent sunrises, sunsets, and miles of sand and surf. Enjoy!

I actually visited P-town in July 2002 - I was over visiting friends who live in Boston and decided to have a day trip there - nice easy ferry ride. :-) At that time, I knew I was gay but was very very very in the closet and so the trip to P-town was quite exciting for me - to be in a mostly gay environment where no-one knew me and so I could finally try to relax and enjoy being gay. I thought it was a lovely little town and the Cape is FABULOUS! I must say though, that the Atlantic was FREEZING cold, despite it being a very hot day!
