Time Out London sex survey 2009

The results of the Time Out London sex survey 2009 were published last week. One statistic in particular stands out to me, namely that 24% of men who answered the survey have had sex with other men, breaking down as 4% who exclusively had sex with men and 20% who had sex with men and women. Can that figure really be representative of the male population in London? Or is it biased because those type of men were more likely to respond to the survey?

As soon as i read the first few lines of this post i thought the exact same thing.

I think people who are more sexually adventorus would be more inclined to take part in such a survey as well as answer the questions honestly.

I don't think a city like London is representative of the general population of England or a rural area anywhere. If I were British, I would live in London because it's proabably the most open place there.

"In (a 2005)study (the journal Psychological Science), a team of psychologists directly measured genital arousal patterns in response to images of men and women. The psychologists found that men who identified themselves as bisexual were in fact exclusively aroused by either one sex or the other, usually by other men."

A 2002 survey in the United States by National Center for Health Statistics found that 1.8 percent of men ages 18–44 considered themselves bisexual, 2.3 percent homosexual, and 3.9 percent as "something else".

The Janus Report on Sexual Behavior, published in 1993, showed that 5 percent of men and 3 percent of women consider themselves bisexual and 4 percent of men and 2 percent of women considered themselves homosexual.

Dr. Alfred Kinsey's 1948 work Sexual Behavior in the Human Male found that "46% of the male population had engaged in both heterosexual and homosexual activities, or 'reacted to' persons of both sexes, in the course of their adult lives".

Some of them probably counted that drunken snog with their mates as a sexual encounter with the same sex. I wouldn't trust it.

Remember gays from all over a country, usually its small towns, flock to the large capital cities seeking acceptance. This usually boosts these numbers.
