Who goes to bed naked?

Man in PyjamasLast night I was lying naked in bed next to boyfriend number 1, waiting for Christmas, when I suddenly remembered an old Simpsons episode (The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace, Series 10, Episode 2). Homer had just decided to become an inventor like Thomas Edison, and in his new role his first act was to throw away his pyjamas because he'd heard that Edison always slept naked too! As do I of course :-).

I'm not sure whether this anecdote about Edison is true or not, but perhaps it's fictitious because a google search fails to find any corroborating evidence. In any case, once I started thinking about the subject, I started wondering how many guys there are like me. Ever since I left home to go to university, I've almost always slept completely nude. Even if I'm in a situation where I could come face to face with someone who'd be embarrassed to see me naked, I'll still sleep naked but keep some sports shorts handy, so I've got something to wear in case I need to get out of bed.

For most of our relationship, boyfriend number 1 has also slept naked in bed next to me. But he started wearing pyjamas as soon as I told him about boyfriend number 2. Occasionally boyfriend number 2 will sleep naked with me, but often he'll come to bed with some underwear on, perhaps some undershorts or sometimes undershorts and a vest. I've never spent a night with boyfriend number 3, but my guess is that he would sleep naked with me if the occasion ever arises, simply because we'll often doze naked together after activities.

But why do guys wear anything in bed? I reckon it's so much nicer and more intimate cuddling up to the guy next to me in bed when we're both naked. Anyway, in a small attempt to investigate this issue, I've set up a poll to find out what we all wear in bed so please vote. All comments welcomed as part of this investigation, especially comments explaining why naked isn't best!

Update: Poll results

For me, as long as I can remember, I have slept naked. Clothes are something I wear when I have to interact with other people, I see no reason to cover myself up when I'm asleep. Personally I would find it a bit strange for me to be with any guy I'd been intimate with to sleep with me in pyjamas or shorts...

What has BF 1's knowing about BF 2's existence got to do with putting on pyjamas in bed?

Hey GB, I always think that more can be less. I much prefer someone sexily dressed in bed then someone who is already naked. It leaves more to the imagination before all other activities ;)

Agreed n1david, that's the way I see things too :-).

The point is 'anonymous', whoever you are, is that wearing pyjamas is a way of being less intimate because it puts up a barrier. I think it was quite understandable for boyfriend number 1 to want to distance himself from me when I told him about boyfriend number 2's existance.

Interesting point DL :-). I definitely agree that a sexily dressed guy looks great, and that it's good fun taking off his clothes myself :-)). But what about afterwards? Or if on any particular night there aren't any activities for whatever reason?

Sure, it's great sleeping sans clothing--except in New England in the winter with heating oil well over $3.00 per gallon. Getting out of bed in a chilly room wearing nothing but the hair on your chest brings on goose pimples. But then I think of the first time I had sex with a man--it was in his very cold house, and as a college student then I also slept naked; he appeared at my bedroom door, also "hairy starkers" to "chat." So I told him he would freeze his ass standing there, "get into bed with me". . you can imagine the rest.

all nude except I like to keep a tshirt on, and in the winter maybe a stocking cap, otherwise below the beltline all nude.
great post. later.

Being mean I turn the heating off at night and a substantial pair of jim-jams keeps the cold at bay when there's no one to snuggle with, otherwise naked. Naked in summer as well of course.

Naked sleepers don’t forget there is a basic hygiene issue with sleeping naked… your ass or arse! There is no such thing as a clean ass, but especially one that was not showered just before bed. So as you wiggle your rump around in bed at night you are spreading multiple kinds of bacteria, viruses, and possibly parasites all over your sheets along with trace amounts of urine, semen, and feces, which all can serve as food for bacteria further bacteria growth. Don’t forget that your sheets, no matter the thread count, don’t serve as a barrier to the mattress below for the microscopic critters.

So, if you wash your sheets once per week then sleeping naked on them is like changing your underwear only once per week.

Oh, I recommend thick washable mattress pad for everyone, but especially you naked sleepers.

Good point 'Anonymous', whoever you are. Hygiene is important, but in fact the modern world may be too hygienic! I've heard of studies which suggest that middle class children can develop asthma and alergies because the clean and comfortable homes that they live in are too clean, so they don't get exposed to enough dirt which helps their immune systems develop properly. However, I agree that guys who are prone to leaving skid marks on their underwear should probably wear their undershorts in bed!

It amazes me the number of guys who have GREY loo paper residues around their arses...and it's even more worrying because blue loo rolls aren't the most popular colour and they don't make them grey so they must have been left to ferment there for quite a while.

Get some moist toilet tissues to finish off or, for those who can afford it, a bidet installed. Sliding a soapy finger between your butt cheeks and giving it a thorough rinse at the end of every bath or shower is also compulsory.

Always naked for me, and yes my sheets are clean....

I have never seen the point of wearing anything in bed, but I do have some nice PJs if I am wandering around in the mornings and there is anyone else at home.

When I'm sleeping alone, I wear a pair of boxers...not sure why, just always have. (no need for heating etc here in Australia) BUT, when sleeping with a "gentleman caller", always naked!!! You never know when ACTIVITIES will happen! ;-)

The worst thing about sleeping naked, is having to get out of bed when it is cold! Even here in Sydney, it can get cool, esp for a native from the tropics.

naked is the only way to sleep: especially when you're sleeping with someone...to be naked and enable "easy access" is just good old fashioned British good manners!

LMAO

Totally naked, all year long. The husband and I enjoy temperatures on the cool side at night. We just layer the bed and nest in it, usually in physical contact all night.

But before he arrived in my life I never wore anything to bed. I like the sensuous feeling of my naked body against the sheets, and the easy access should I wake up and feel like a wank. I also live naked a fair amount of the time, and many of the activities we pursue with our friends are done sans clothing.

Well, I prefer to sleep naked but I totally understand my lover's point of view, he told me that wearing an underwear is the signal telling me that he wants to sleep, otherwise he feels like spending rather exhausting nights with naps, and has to rest in his office :)
